Why Infrastructure NSW

Infrastructure NSW is an expert advisor to the NSW Government on the State’s infrastructure needs and priorities.

As expert advisors, our key functions include:

  • preparing the State Infrastructure Strategy every five years, which is a 20-year infrastructure investment plan for the NSW Government
  • compiling the annual 5-year Infrastructure Plan, which identifies major infrastructure projects to be undertaken as a priority
  • providing specialist advice to the NSW Government on specific infrastructure initiatives by government agencies or the private sector
  • facilitating the State’s engagement with the Federal Government to ensure coordination of infrastructure priorities.

The CLG team is part of the Strategy, Planning and Innovation (SPI) division. The SPI team undertakes research and analysis of current & emerging infrastructure trends, issues, & opportunities to provide strategic, expert advice to Government on the State’s infrastructure needs and priorities, including refreshing the State Infrastructure Strategy. It drives sectoral alignment and integration across Government to ensure project prioritisation and sectoral infrastructure plans are optimised by balancing the costs, risks, and performance of infrastructure proposals against appropriate benchmarks and standards. SPI also collaborates with State and Federal Governments, academia, industry, and the public, building capability in infrastructure-related work practices through cultural, technical and policy leadership across infrastructure domains.

About the role

 This role is open to students in the final 2 years of completing studies

Hatch Student Responsibilities include:

Meeting Support and Administration:

  • Assist in preparing for monthly Construction Leadership Group (CLG) meetings and case study forums, including preparation and formatting of documents, meeting templates, capturing meeting minutes and actions.
  • Liaise with team members to ensure agenda and meeting materials are ready for monthly meetings
  • Maintenance of Microsoft Teams workspaces including uploading and updating documents.

Annual Progress Report:

  • Support collation of annual Progress Report against the 10 Point Commitment to the Construction Sector
  • Collect and analyse data received to synthesize insights and track annual progress

Major Infrastructure Project Pipeline:

  • Conduct research on major NSW Government infrastructure projects to support regular updates to the NSW Major Project Pipeline

Research and support on other strategic policy workstreams, including

  • Sustainability and decarbonisation in infrastructure
  • State Infrastructure Plan
  • State Infrastructure Strategy
  • NSW Government Women in Construction program
  • Infrastructure related flood recovery initiatives

Construction industry engagement:

  • Provide administrative assistance with industry forums, events and communications
  • Draft content for INSW website and internal INSW communications
