Is your hiring strategy attracting the best Gen Z talent?

If you’re thinking about adjusting your hiring and talent strategies for Gen Z, you’re not alone.

Gen Z will make up 27% of the workforce in by 2025. They have unique traits and ways of thinking that set them apart from previous generations. It’s important to understand how Gen Z are different, and how you might need to adapt. If early career talent is key to your hiring strategy, but you haven’t thought about how your process and tools need to change - there's no better time than now!

Read on as we share 4 ways to make sure you’re set up for success when it comes to attracting the best Gen Z talent.

1. Use social media to engage and attract talent

97% of Gen Z spend at least one hour per day on social media - which makes platforms like Tik Tok, Instagram and even Twitter essential tools to use to attract Gen Z talent. While diving into creating social media content there’s a few things to keep top of mind:

Make your content as engaging as possible: Gen Z love to see behind-the-scenes glimpses of your workplace, employee testimonials and content that highlights your company being values and mission-led.

  • Keep your content short and sweet - think about creating short videos and stories to grab attention (and also boost your chances with the platform algorithms).
  • Where you can - use fun, eye-catching visual content to capture attention too.

Interact and engage: Respond to comments, direct messages, and mentions to create a sense of connection and show that your company is approachable and responsive.

2. Put your team and culture at the forefront

Gen Z wants more than a job; they want to find opportunities that support their goals and passions. In discovering whether your company's right, Gen Z aren’t interested in watching staged content and reading long-winded written spiels on what your company’s like to join. They’re interested in seeing authentic content that shows off your culture and vibe. To give Gen Z a better sense of what joining your company is like:

Offer a glimpse into daily life: Utilise team member takeovers on social media or blog posts written by team members to provide an authentic view of what it's like to work at your company.

Share team events and activities: Post about team outings, volunteer work, or office traditions to demonstrate your culture and vibe.

3. Showcase opportunities for growth and development

Gen Z care about the learning and development opportunities that are available to them - early on in their job search. Investing in employee career growth can help you attract Gen Z workers — and retain them. To tap into their ambition:

Showcase learning opportunities: Promote any workshops, online courses, or training programs you provide that help your team grow their skills and advance their careers. You could share these through your company brand or perhaps get team members who participate to share.

Highlight mentorship programs: If your company offers mentorship or coaching, share stories or testimonials of people who’ve taken part to show off the value and benefits of these programs.

Demonstrate career growth opportunities: Share the success stories of team members who have progressed within the company, demonstrating clear pathways for growth.

4. Ensure your hiring process is efficient

A smooth and transparent hiring process is key to attracting top Gen Z talent. Throughout the process it’s important to:

Communicate often and clearly: Regular updates significantly enhance a candidates experience with your brand. These updates should include the status of their application whenever it changes and transparency into the next steps in the process.

Offer flexible interview options: Consider offering virtual interviews or async video interviews to accommodate candidates' schedules and preferences as much as possible.

Attracting Gen Z talent requires more focus than ever on positioning your company as an attractive place to work. Through an approach that embraces social media, transparency, showcases your team vibe and prioritises your values you can appeal to top Gen Z candidates.
