If you’re thinking about ways to attract the next generation of talent to your company, your website is a great place to start.

Is your website ready to attract the next generation of talent? It may be time to reimagine the way you present your company culture and employer brand to attract new talent.

Read on as we share some tips on creating a careers page that leaves an impression on Gen Z and millennials.

Sell more than just open roles

Simple job listings are no longer attracting the best candidates. The next generation of talent is seeking more than just financial security and a 9-to-5 gig – they’re looking for roles with purpose, roles that align to their passions and values, and an environment where they can thrive. Here are 6 things to make a part of your career page that goes beyond your available roles:

1. Lead with culture

Your careers site shouldn't just be a list of open positions, it should convey a sense of belonging. Shine a spotlight on your mission, values, and the impact your team is making in the world. Let candidates see how their journey with your company can be so much more than just a job - it’s an opportunity to contribute to a greater cause.

2. Highlight your people

Behind every great company, there’s a team of passionate individuals who are the heart and soul of your organisation. Share their stories, motivations and successes through day-in-the-life glimpses and proudly share their achievements. Potential candidates want to see the faces of the people who make your company thrive.

3. Perks and beyond

Does your company provide unique perks, flexible working arrangements or amazing workspaces? Make it known! Highlight the benefits that make your company stand out and let candidates visualise their work-life balance. One great example of a unique perk is Linktree offering their employees $6,000 AUD annually to spend across Wellness, Growth, Lifestyle and Impact pillars. Check out our ‘6 companies with unique employee benefits’ blog to see other unique perks companies are offering.

4. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)

A workplace where every voice is valued, where diversity is a strength, and where inclusivity is an integral part of the company culture – that's the kind of environment that many next-gen job seekers are actively seeking. In fact, '83% of Gen Z job seekers say they prioritize the company’s stance on diversity, equity, and inclusion (Culture Amp). Share your initiatives, highlight employee resource groups, and highlight your commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued.

5. Environmental impact

If your company is making waves in sustainability, don’t hesitate to make it known! Many next-gen job seekers are passionate about environmental causes and want to be part of a company that is making a positive impact on the world.

6. Career development and growth

People are looking to join companies for long-haul, and love to get insight into what growth and progression opportunities are on offer. If you offer mentorship programs, education incentives or have career progression pathways or stories to share - show them off!

Show off a different side of your brand

In a world where content is king and authenticity trumps all, your employer brand and how you show this off has become more important than ever before. But here's the exciting part: your employer brand doesn't necessarily have to mirror your product brand. It's a chance to reveal the behind-the-scenes, the personality, and the quirks that make your company unique.

Align with your identity: Your employer brand should align with and reflect your organisational brand, vision, and values - but not mirror. It's your opportunity to show a more human, personal aspect. Let your company's personality shine through.

Build connection: Next-gen talent connects with authenticity. Use language that resonates with them, not corporate. Write like you're having a friendly conversation and use relatable language that invites candidates in. Showcasing a bit of quirkiness can make your employer brand feel real and relatable and get candidates excited and curious.

Talk about what matters: Don’t be afraid to lean into talking about topics that the next generation really care about, but aren’t often front and centre such as DEI, the environment, pay transparency.

Careers at Shopify

We love that Shopify dedicates a whole section to hiring people who may be on non-linear career journeys. They’re focused on hiring exceptional talent and “VIP access” highlights exactly that - they’re looking for people to apply extraordinary abilities to their mission. Shopify also really highlights that they hire people, not resumes. They're upfront about who they are, and want to ensure that candidates have a clear understanding of what it means to be a part of the team.
