Hatch sat down with Anna, Core Ops Process Analyst at Uber to learn more about her early career story and why she uses Hatch to find work!

Could you tell us a bit about your role at Uber and what it involves?

Anna: I'm currently working as a Core Ops Process Analyst, focusing on compliance processes and automation projects within the Core Ops Team. Essentially, I ensure that drivers comply with regulations from each state for ride-sharing services.

How long have you been with Uber, and what were you doing before?

Anna: I joined Uber in November 2023, so it's been about five months. Before that, I was working as an intern at an e-commerce company and also studying at University.

How did your internship experience contribute to your career development?

Anna: The internship was invaluable in providing real-life work experience, and teaching me workplace expectations, communication skills, and critical thinking. While University provides foundational knowledge, the internship helped me apply it in practical settings.

What were your career aspirations when you were younger, and did you see yourself working at a tech company like Uber?

Anna: Initially, I was considering a career in marketing but eventually realised my passion for tech-related fields. I didn’t expect to start my career at Uber, but I'm excited about the opportunities it offers.

What do you consider your unique superpower that's difficult to show on a resume?

Anna: I believe my curiosity is my unique superpower. While it's not something you can easily showcase on a resume, it drives me to understand companies deeply and ask the right questions, which is crucial in my role.

Reflecting on your early career, what has been your biggest lesson so far?

Anna: One of the biggest lessons was realising the importance of setting boundaries and prioritising self-care. I pushed myself too hard at times, leading to burnout. Learning to balance ambition with self-care has been key.

Do you have any advice for candidates applying for roles similar to yours?

Anna: Tailoring your resume to each job application is crucial; it's not just a numbers game. Also, don't underestimate the value of video interviews, even though they can be daunting. They help improve communication skills and confidence.

What are your career aspirations for the future?

Anna: In the short term, I'm interested in transitioning into product management within tech companies. However, I also have dreams of exploring entrepreneurial ventures like opening a bakery or cafe in the future.

Do you have anything else that you’d like to share with the Hatch community?

Anna: Remember that every experience contributes to your growth, even if it's not what you expected. Stay curious, chase your interests, and don't be afraid to pivot if something doesn't feel right. Your journey will unfold in unexpected but rewarding ways.
